The Shahnameh

Ferdowsi's epic Book of Kings, which was completed around 1010 CE, is a massive retelling of the lives and times of 50 kings of Iran.

It is especially prized among Persians because the language is purely Persian, with no Arabic vocabulary.

Also, it reflects Persian culture, including Zoroastrian traditions, uncontaminated by the Arab invasion and the forced conversions to Islam.

This series of Persian miniatures with calligraphy are inspired by the art and poetry of this great book.
