Item PY7

Dimensions: 48 x 24 cm.  This vintage print has some slight wear around the edges of the border due to age; this does not affect the actual image and will not be visible once the print is properly matted and framed.

The caption on the bottom of the print reads as follows:

Shapur Triumphs, Naqsh-e Rustam Darab

At the front of a cliff known as the Naqsh-e Rustam Darab, between Darabgerd and the present-day town of Darab, a spring forms a quiet pool before the cliff face, into which is carved an early Sassanian bas-relief. Most authorities have attributed it to Shapur I, believing that it depicted his triumph over the Roman emperors Valerian and Philip the Arab. Some archaeologists, however, offer the suggestion that it shows Ardeshir I (who was military Governor of Darabgerd during his father's lifetime and before his battle with Artabanus V). Among the Roman Emperors defeated by Ardeshir were Severus Alexander and Maximus Thrace.
