Shapur Triumphs, Naqsh-e Rustam Darab

At the foot of a cliff known as Naqsh-e Rustam Darab, between Darabgerd and the present-day town of Darab, a spring forms a quiet pool before the cliff face, into which is carved an early Sassanian bas-relief. Most authorities have attributed it to Shapur I, believing that it depicted his triumph over the Roman emperors Valerian I and Philip The Arab. However, some archaeologists suggest that it is actually Ardeshir I, who was the military governor of Darabgerd.
