This is an Aftabeh with matching lagan.   It is said that in the House of Aayano, Ashraf they used to have this set for washing hands before and after every meal.  I remember seeing this in Iran in 1975, the last time I was there, in a village.  It was still in use.

In the House of Khavaneen, it was customary to have this set and use it, even in recent times.  This is a miniature version of the larger one as a remembrance of Persian cultural history.

I have heard that in Afghanistan this is still in use - in fact, I saw it on CNN not long ago! This tells us something of the society in each country and where they are now.
