P25a, One Rupee note issued 1940. This was the final note depicting a British King's portrait. Front:  King George VI on a coin of one rupee with the date 1940 on the back. "GRI" and crown on watermark window. GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in centre. Numeral 1 in top corners only. Reverse:  Language panel located at centre. Reverse of silver One Rupee coin dated 1940.

Very fine condition: Some signs of age and wear; no obvious folds or wrinkles. Q1  $65.00

P31, Two Rupee note issued 1962. Front: Lion capital of Asoka column (now in Sarnath Museum). Reverse: Tiger looking to the right. (Note: the serial number you receive will be different from that shown.)

Extra fine condition: very slight wrinkling around the edges. Q1  $45.00

This 5 rupee note was called "Gandhi Cash" and was issued in 1951.  It was considered a promissory note and used for obtaining khadi, the kind of cotton that Gandhi spun in his home.  They could be redeemed at a khadi bandar, or outlet shop.  They are also considered a way to commemorate Gandhi for his support of the poor who spun cotton to improve their lives. There is writing in Hindi on the front with a portrait of Gandhi; there is writing in Urdu on the back, which commemorates Gandhi's desire to maintain a united India.
