Godard, Andre, Yedda Godard, Maxime Siroux, et. al. Athar-e Iran. Vol1: 382 pages; Vol2: 386 pages; ill., 23 cm. Mashhad: Astan Quds Razavi, Persian Year 1371. Hardcover. This two-volume set was originally published in eight volumes in the 1930s and 1940s. Andre Godard (1881-1965) was a French-born archaeologist and architect. A graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he first went to Persia in 1928 at the invitation of Reza Shah to create a structure for studying Persian antiquities. He designed the National Museum of Iran and went on to become its Director. Later, he designed the Tehran University campus and was appointed Dean of the School of Architecture. In fact, the Danesh Kade-ye Honarha-ye Ziba is the exact Persian translation of the French Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

Godard documented Iranian monuments on a massive scale. He was also involved in preserving historical buildings. When WW II broke out, Godard became head of the Resistance movement and published an underground newspaper for his French compatriots. Later, aided by his wife, Yedda, and other archaeologists and friends, he wrote a series of articles each year. These articles are compiled in this two-volume set. They are translated into Persian by Abolhasan Sarvegjade Moghaddam.

With many illustrations and photographs, these books are vital to architectural students, archaeologists and anyone with an interest in Persian arts and culture. The level of effort that went into this research can never be replicated.

The condition is used, with noticeable cover wear along the edges. The pages are clean and the binding is tight.
