Houshang Moradi Kermani (1944-) was born in
Sirch, Kerman. He received a degree in English Literature from Tehran
University and became a writer for children and young people's radio programmes.
He also contributed to several notable literary magazines, but is best known in
Iran for his books. Written principally for young adult readers, they are
nonetheless popular among readers of varying ages. In fact, several films
and television series have been made based on his books.
In 1992, Mr. Kermani was honoured as a Hans Christian Andersen Award Highly
Commended Candidate for his contributions to children's literature. He
remains a household name in his native country for the honesty and sincerity of
his stories.
