Khajeh Abdullah Ansari
Abu Ismail Khajeh Abdullah Ansari (1006-1088)
was born in the Persian Empire town of Herat (now in Afghanistan). A devout
Sufi, Ansari was known as "The Pious One" during his lifetime. He wrote
several books concerning philosophy and religion during his lifetime,
writing in both his native Persian and in Arabic. The best-known of these
works is called the "Munajat Namah" (literally 'Litanies or Dialogues with
God'), which is considered a masterpiece of Persian literature.
Today, pilgrims still travel to his tomb in Herat. It has been restored and maintained through the Aga Khan Trust for Culture as part of its Historic Cities Programme. |
