Item No. 120

The sound of the reed comes from fire, not wind
What use is one's life without this fire?
It is the fire of love that brings music to the reed.
It is the ferment of love that gives taste to the wine.
The song of the reed soothes the pain of lost love.
Its melody sweeps the veils from the heart.
Can there be a poison so bitter or a sugar so sweet
As the song of the reed?
To hear the song of the reed
everything you have ever known must be left behind.
--Rumi

This vintage moaraq is a classic Persian romantic image, very reminiscent of poems such as the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, featuring the Persian fondness for music.  The moaraq comes with a metal eyelet mounted on the back, ready to display on your home or office wall.  Signed by the artist (see lower left and close-up above).   There is a metal eyelet on the top to use for wall display.

The item does have some very obvious signs of age and wear around the back and the upper right corner, as shown in the photos above. These do not detract from the main image and are not especially noticeable. If one were to set it into a wooden frame, then it would not be visible at all and would help protect the piece from any further wear.

This item would make an excellent gift for anyone who is fond of fine craftsmanship, folk arts, decorators or anyone looking for that extra touch of class for their home.

Dimensions: 38.5 x 30 x 1.5 cm, or 15.25" x 12" x 0.75".
